  • I have located 30 km from Mangalore wanted to install solar system to run 3 fan 1 led tv ,2 tube light 2 CFL bulbs 1 refrigerator so please confirm what size inverter & panel to run cannected load and backup battery?     1.5 KVA Solar Inverter can power a load upto 1200 watts. It works with 2 battery and a panel upto 1000 watt can be connected with the inverter. The back up time depends upon uses, If you use, 300 watts of load, it will give around 9 hours of backup. If you buy from Luminous eShop, we will get it installed, the installation cost which includes Wiring, Connecting solar panels with Junctin box, Distributon box, Inverter battery + Structure for solar panel mouning will cost you Rs. 10 / watt,  so if you connect 1000 Watt panel, your total installation cost will be 10,000/- 

  • Can I use 3 numbers of 250watt panels with retrofit 24volt 20 amp system? It says panel supports upto 800watts, 25 volts max. But the output of 250watt panel is 24 volts, is it safe? Please advise, thanks.

    Luminous makes products after lots of testing and validations. it is completely safe to connect 3 nos. of 250 watt solar panel.

    Solar Retrofit has been upgraded with LCD model. The Product Name is Shine 1220 which supports 12V/ 24V Connection. In shine 1220 you can connect Solar PV modules upto 800 watts.

  • How does the auto mode work.     Solar retrofit has 100% solar charging mode. if you keep this mode on, then it will not use grid power to charge the battery and supply the load.

  • I have existing Inverter & battery at my home. I would like to add Solar Panel & charge controller for an off-grid roof top plant. There will be 3 scenarios. Scenario-1: From Morning to Evening, (say from 7 A.M to 5 P.M.) Solar Panel will charge the battery & at the same time take care of nominal electrical load running during this period. Scenario-2: After sunset, power from PV panel will not be available & now battery will start discharging & will take care of load. This will continue until 9 P.M. say. Scenario-3: Suppose by 9 P.M. battery is 80% discharged, then power from Grid will start to take care of load. During this time, battery will start charging also. My question is whether Retrofit 20 will take care of above scenario automatically without any human intervention.

    Solar Retrofit converts normal inverter into hybrid inverter. The working is same as your explained in your question.

    Luminous solar retrofit makes conventional (Normal) inverter into intelligent solar hybrid inverter. Once your system becomes hybrid, following things would happen.
    a) Inverter will utilize maximum solar power for charging battery.
    b) if solar panel generation is in excess, the inverter will charge the battery Plus suplus power generation (togal generation - Solar power generation used in charging the battery) will be supplied to connected load. 
    c) if battery is fully charged, Solar generation will be used to power connected load.

  • Can I use for 12v 150ah flat plate battery& 300wt panel how much panels in future increase

    Solar Retrofit can work with 12 V battery and upto 800 watts of solar panel could be connected. Hence, you can easily connect 12 V- 150 AH battery and maximum of 800 watts of solar panel. 

  • Excellent product, but very limited information on how to connect. If you provide a simple wiring diagram, people can buy the production and local electrician can easily install it. Please provide a wiring diagram that I can show to electrician.

  • Retrofit indicate battery full

    Solar retrofit solution 20 amp has indication to show Grid Charging, Solar Charging, Gird/Solar Charging, but it does not have battery charging level indication.

    Luminous Solar retrofit comes in 20 ampere 12V/24V rating and 50 ampere 96 Volt rating. Selection of Retrofit depends on Inverter system. For 12V inverter system, 12 V retrofit should be bought, for 24 V Inverter system, 24 V retrofit should be bought. Since retrofit converts normal inverter into solar intelligent hybrid inverter, you do not need to worry about charing of battery and supplying load from the Grid. Solar Retorit is an intelligent system, it charges the battery from Solar panel and if solar generation is in excess, it will also supply the power to connected load from solar panel without using grid power.

Since you want to use 3 fans (70 watts) and 4 Tube lights (18 watts). your total power consumption is 210 Watts + 72 Watts = 282 watts. for calculating how much solar panel is required, pleaes follow the formula.

    Solar Panel requirement = Total power consumption / No. of sunshine hours. 

    let's assume, you want to run 282 watts of power for 10 hours (mainly night), Total power consumption is = 2820 watts, In India, usually, 8 hours of good sunshine available.

    Solar panel requirement = 2820 watts / 8 = 352 watts, i.e you should buy 1 no. of 150 watt panel and 2 numbers of 100 watt panel.

    Solar retrofit is an intelligent system that comes with many protections such asshort circuit, over voltage, over current, over charge and deep discharge, So you should not worry about battery life if  you are using Luminous brand retrofit.

    There are three modes in Retorfit. the explanatin is as follows
    1) Auto and Manual - Keep Auto mode on if you want the retrofit to take the intelligence, in Auto mode, battery will be charged from Solar and Grid both depending upon availability of power source.
    2) If you switch on Manual mode, then only the second switch stars functioning i.e. (Charger and 100% Solar)
    3) if you keep charger mode on, your battery will be charged from Grid, and if you keep 100% solar on, Battery will be charged from solar only.
    4) the last switch is for battery type selection - Flat plate and Tubular battery.

  • Will it work with 12 volt solar panel .

    Solar retrofit is 12V /24V system. it works with both 12V and 24V Solar Panel. 

  • Hi, Retrofit is a great product, my one suggestion is You could have put a switch similar to Tubular / Flat plate battery, in all the other 2 places namely auto / manual and charger on / 100% Solar also. Ok, my question is will there be uninterupted power to load from the Grid/SolarPanel while grid/Solar power is there and supply power to the load from battery incase of the failure of the Grid/Solar power supply. Will the retrofit work like this as usual or is there a change in the inverter system. As I want to buy this for my existing Luminous Inverter system in my residence. By the way I am a very happy customer of Luminous Invertor System.

    The answer of your question is as follows: 

    1) Threre will be unintrupted powr to load from Grid /Solar while Grid/ Solar is available.
    2) When There is a power failure, It will supply power from battery to connected load.
    3) if there is power failure, Battery if fully charged, and there is generation of solar power, it would supply power from solar panel to Load directly.

  • I have heard that for 300 wt panels we need a minimum of 25 ampere.solar charge controller.so how is this compatiable when it is only 20a

    Solar Panel Capacity measured in WP. 
    Power(watts) = Voltage (P) * Current (I)

    100 watt solar panel specs
    100 watts = 18.2 voltage * 5.5 amps

    150 watt solar panel specs
    150 watts = 18.2 voltage * 8.2 amps

    If you connect 2 number of 150 watt solar panel in parellel. the Maxium current will be (8.2* 2) 16.4 amps current. Solar retrofit rated power is 20 amps. hence it will support 300 watts of solar panel 

  • For 100Ah battery, how much watts solar pannel needed?

    The Thumb rule for calculating solar panel size for a offgrid system is "2* battery Ah Capacity". By this formula, you need to have 200 Wp solar panel for charging 100 Ah battery.

    Luminous retrofit has just got upgradated. Earlier, Retrofit was supporting only single battery (12V). The latest retrofit works with single and double battery (12V or 24 V). The model name is Solar Shine 1220 retrofit. It supports upto 800 watts of solar panel. you can buy online from website itself.
